We recently hosted an online webinar about the newly-introduced Google Consent Mode v2 and its implications for digital marketers. If you’d like to watch the recording, please see below or here, otherwise please see the key takeaways from this webinar below. Or head to our step-by-step guide to setting up Google Consent Mode v2 in Google Tag Manager.

Google Consent Mode v2

Google Consent Mode v2 has been introduced following increased scrutiny on some of the tech giants with regard to data privacy and compliance. The deadline for Google Consent Mode was officially 6th March 2024. Google Consent Mode v2 allows websites to manage user consent for tracking activities such as ad personalization and measurement cookies. By implementing GDPR-compliant cookie banners, it allows websites to ensure that they respect their user/visitor preferences whilst still collecting essential data for marketing purposes. Marketers must therefore ensure that they comply with Google Consent Mode v2 and data privacy regulations whilst also striking a balance to target, and leverage anonymized data to gain user behavioural insights.

Key takeaways from our webinar:

Understanding the new changes:

Consent Mode v2 is Google’s response to the evolving landscape of data privacy regulations, particularly in the EU. It addresses the need for websites to obtain user consent for tracking activities, such as ad personalization and measurement cookies.

The Regulatory Context

In recent years, there has been increased scrutiny on tech giants regarding data privacy and compliance. With the EU designating companies like Google as online gatekeepers, there’s a heightened focus on ensuring transparency and accountability in data handling practices.

Key Features of Consent Mode v2

Consent Mode v2 primarily focuses on two aspects: ad personalization and measurement cookies. It offers a structured approach to managing user consent through GDPR-compliant cookie banners, allowing websites to respect users’ preferences while still collecting essential data for marketing purposes.

How to Implement

Implementing Consent Mode v2 involves two main approaches: basic or advanced. The basic approach utilizes a standard cookie consent banner, while the advanced approach provides additional insights by signalling user interactions even if the user rejects cookies. For the full ‘How To’ on implementing Consent Mode V2 in GTM please check out our step-by-step guide here.

Next steps…

Make sure you’ve implemented Google Consent Mode v2! After that, as the rules and regulations and marketing landscape evolve, it’s essential to keep up-to-date and compliant with data privacy regulations as it’s likely that this is just the beginning of ongoing changes.

If you’d like any help implementing Consent Mode v2 or you would like advice on how to connect and consolidate all your marketing data – plus report at the click of a button, simply get in touch at team@askbosco.com

Last week, our CEO & Founder John Readman and CTO Zdenek Burda headed over to Lisbon to attend the world’s largest tech conference, Web Summit.

The event saw more than 2,600 startups showcasing their business ideas to 70,000-plus attendees, tech experts, investors, world-class speakers and even some famous celebrities.

It was great to see that our thinking was aligned with the overarching themes of the event, including that AI will be used to enhance and not replace marketing and marketers, and much more.

Read all about our experience at Web Summit.

Day 1

Will GenAI Transform Marketing and Advertising?

Simone Berry of POCLab, Michael Treff of Code and Theory, Angelica Mari, a Freelance Tech Reporter & Kristina Cambefort of hiremy.ai discussed the impact that generative AI will have on content creation, marketing and advertising.

AI as the Next Great Equaliser?

Manny Medina, the co-founder of Outreach gave a really insightful talk where he suggested that AI could offer a pathway for unprecedented equality in terms of economic empowerment

Marketing in 2024

Setting expectations: How will AI impact your industry

Valuable insights on this topic from CI&T, Sproxxy & Grit Daily Group, who talked about how AI is the new reality, and the winners will be those who empower their teams and those who learn how to use and apply it.

It’s a big opportunity for all people, at all levels.

On Thursday 8th June, we had the honour of hosting a fabulous gathering of industry leaders, AI enthusiasts, agency owners and in-house teams who came together for our AI breakfast workshop held at over at our friends’ amazing new Lunio office in Manchester.

The event was a hub of insightful discussions, thought-provoking presentations, and a captivating keynote – all washed down with plenty of tea, coffee and breakfast sarnies.

During the workshop, we delved into the current noise around AI, the incredible speed at which it has taken hold and also the future of AI. We also tackled pressing topics such as AI regulation and AI bots, and explored using AI to predict where to allocate our online marketing spend.

Gordon Young: The Drum’s Editor in Chief’s musical Interlude

We kicked off the event with a rendition of Gordon Young’s ‘Death of the Copywriter’ song written in the style of Johnny Cash – and of course, written by ChatGPT. What Gordon makes up for in melodic tone, he certainly makes up for in enthusiasm (!) and despite the fun and frolics, there was a very important message in the lyrics with relation to the impending doom that a lot of creatives are feeling with the take up of AI in this space.

The Keynote Speech: Generative AI:

Roy Murphy, owner of Synthetic Agency, kicked off the event with fascinating keynote speech on Generative AI. His insights shed light on the cutting-edge advancements and potential of AI algorithms in generating realistic and stunning content from scratch. Blurring the human and AI-generated creations, big brands such as Coca Cola have started using AI generated images in their campaigns and Roy commented that this is just the start of AI’s potential in the creative space – and agency owners and in-house teams need to test and explore its possibilities now before they get left behind.

The AI Experts’ Panel: Perspectives on AI Bots, Regulation, and Predictive Algorithms

The event was further enriched by a panel discussion featuring the fabulous brains of Dan Sodergren, Leonardo Pizarro, and our very own Emily Hakner and John Readman from Ask BOSCO®. The panelists shared their expertise and engaged in insightful conversations on diverse AI-focused topics. From the impact of AI bots on the quality of your data, to AI being the fifth revolution, to task automation and the contentious issue around regulation to ensure ethical AI systems. We also delved into the capabilities of AI algorithms in predicting our online future, used by the ASK BOSCO marketing platform.

Each speaker showcases the immense potential AI holds for shaping our digital experiences and, despite a lot of scaremongering in the news, were generally upbeat about AI – with the general feeling that ‘the genie has been released from the bottle’.

Q&A

The Q&A discussion brought up several new topics, including how to engage your team into using AI – one recommendation was to run an AI competition to see who was using AI to its best capabilities within each team. The questions also covered the current state of the education system and the fact that our children’s education is not really preparing them for the world ahead, given we are now in a new AI age.

The AI event proved to be a great platform for sharing knowledge, insights, and innovative ideas surrounding the future of AI. There was lots of note scribbling from the attendees and we all gained a lot of new knowledge and insight into the fascinating new world of AI.

If you would like to speak to us about anything we discussed at our AI event, feel free to drop us an email to team@askbosco.io or if you’d like to find out how we can save you tonnes of time and make you more money with our marketing AI platform, book a quick call with our team.

At the end of last week, Ask BOSCO™’s CEO and Founder, John Readman had the pleasure of attending the ABTA travel and marketing conference 2023 in London, presenting two of the sessions.

This is his review of the day…

My experience at the ABTA Travel Marketing Conference 2023

The ABTA Travel Marketing Conference didn’t disappoint. Not only was the venue at the top of the NewsUK building, offering a perfect view of the capital city, but the content provided senior leaders in the travel marketing world with a panoramic view of future trends and current opportunities in marketing.

Day 1: Branding and investing in your brand.

Here are some standout insights from day one:

 • 38% of people haven’t booked their holidays for 2023 yet.
 • Family holidays are still a higher priority for people than dining out at restaurants.
 • Ronan Gay from Black Tomato, a leading luxury travel company, shared their focus on storytelling and selling the dream. Their expertise even attracted the produces of the James Bond franchise who approached them for a travel content collaboration. Epic!
 • Rosa Mitchell from Connective3 delivered a rapid-fire tour of SEO and content, covering 100 slides in just 20 minutes. She provided many top tips and recommended great tools.
 • Scott Logie previously experienced in the data industry and now at Sagacity, emphasized the importance of organizing your data and focusing on the basics.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to people and recruitment. Nathalie from Tui shared insights, ideas, and content that have made TUI an employer of choice in the travel sector.

Day 2: AI, Data, and Tech

The keynote speech by Daniel Rowles, CEO of TargetInternet.com and Programme Director at Imperial College London, was the highlight of the event for me. He mentioned upcoming AI/AR/VR contact lenses, leaving me wondering where I could order them from!

The key takeaway was that trust and community will be crucial in a world of AI, where it’s difficult to distinguish between real and AI-generated content, videos, and voices. Daniel showcased some incredibly lifelike AI personal avatars with real voices, which was both scary and exciting.

Tom Streetly from DAX highlighted the opportunities in podcasts and digital audio for advertising. It’s a growing channel that the travel sector should explore further.

Ian Chambers from easyJet Holidays presented a robust, clear plan based on Google customer segments. He showcased the use of app technology to create seamless traveller experiences. I particularly liked his focus on PPC optimisation for profit and understanding attribution.

John Readman Ask BOSCO™ speaking at the ABTA Travel Marketing Conference 2023

Later, I took the stage with Arjan van Hartesveldt from Deployteq, moderated by Dean Harvey from Kuoni where we discussed clever AI and automation for the ‘Innovative tech solutions for modern marketers’ segment. My presentation focused on where businesses should invest their money and how our Ask BOSCO™ AI can help measure, plan, and predict future online marketing strategies. The audience engaged with many questions during our interactive Q&A session.

After lunch, I returned to the stage for a session with Andy Headington from Adido. Andy shared his knowledge on common analytics and tracking mistakes from the start and how to rectify them. I contributed insights using ChatGPT and Bard, discussing the optimal split of traffic between SEO and PPC based on anonymised data from hundreds of Ask BOSCO™ clients.

Andy continued his session, providing valuable tips on GA4 and how to prepare for its implementation. It was an extremely useful and practical session for everyone in attendance.

The last two sessions explored broader media opportunities, featuring insights from TikTok, Pinterest, Sky, and our partners at VDX. All the information presented was supported by independent data from GWI.

All in all, a great and very insightful couple of days. (On a side note though, the coffee was very average, and lunch felt somewhat lacklustre…similar to my aunt’s wedding anniversary ). However, the excellent content made up for it, so I’ll let it slide. Now I’m off to book my next holiday…✈️

]]>
We recently welcomed over 50 of the fastest growing agencies and in-house teams in the UK to an AI-focused breakfast workshop held at the Drum Labs in London. This was a fantastic event where industry experts helped to distil the noise around AI and offered some practical advice and food for thought (over a breakfast sandwich) about how AI can help agencies and in-house teams and brands grow and scale.

During this two-hour session, we shared use cases of AI in agencies and in-house teams, and uncovered how you too can harness these new technologies.

The session was hosted by our CEO John Readman, and we were joined by the following guest panellists:

Martin Ward – Waypoint Partners

Duncan Gledhill – Email Movers

Gordon Young – The Drum

André Brown – Advanced Commerce

Armando Janigro – Kleecks

Jane Reeve – Kleecks

We kicked off the day with a song written by AI. Gordon Young, Editor in Chief at The Drum asked ChatGPT to write him a song to perform in the style of Jonny Cash.

Keynote: Is 2023 the year of AI in marketing?

The keynote was delivered by Martin Ward, an AI expert with 30+ years’ experience in enterprise technology across EMEA. He is an alumnus of MIT, IESE and Imperial College and is a serial angel investor and start-up mentor across MarTech, customer analytics, machine learning and FinTech.

His keynote considered whether 2023 was the year of AI in Marketing. Martin reminded us that AI (or machine learning as he prefers to call it) has been around for centuries, whether that be in the form of magic, chess boards or more recently, for example, AI re-creating Donald Trump’s voice and reading the ‘3 little pigs’ story!

Artificial intelligence more specifically been around in marketing for years, and used in analytics, insight, forecasting, personalization, optimization, generation, interaction and more.

The key takeaways from Martin’s keynote were:

 • Next level machine learning capabilities are here now. Agencies and in-house teams need to start harnessing them.
 • More of the execution of agencies/in-house teams will be automated.
 • Exponential change will start to bite.
 • Machine learning/AI is not (totally) replacing human judgement.
 • Machines cannot predict everything.
 • Human connection is even more important.
 • The bottom line? Agencies and in-house teams need to understand AI and its implications. Now!

Time for some AI Q&A

After our panel discussion, we opened the floor to any questions for our expert panellists. Most of the conversation and questions were about bias in AI, particularly location and country specific.

A big thank you to our panellists for taking part and for their continued support. The recording can be watched here.

The post Is performance marketing dead in the cookie-less future? appeared first on ASK BOSCO®.

]]>

At the start of 2020, Google announced that it was removing third-party cookies from Chrome. Google plan to start phasing these cookies out by 2024. What does the cookie-less future mean for advertisers?

As new privacy laws are introduced year after year, we look at the benefits of eradicating cookies, the effect it will have on advertisers and how all this will redefine the use of data for engagement and targeting.

Our CEO and Founder John Readman was joined by Modo25’s Associate Director of Strategy, Andreia Oncioiu and Ecommerce Manager at Salonwear Direct Mark Harrison, to discuss whether performance marketing is dead in a cookie-less future.

We questioned Andreia and our retail panellist Mark, on why this change could affect digital performance, the media landscape once cookies are phased out and attribution modelling.

On future-proof measurement and reporting, Andreia said: “Everyone should have started implementing CAPI (conversion API) and advanced matching for paid social, display and affiliates. Some advertisers would have started playing with understanding incrementality of a given channel and model/adapt their KPIs based on this.”

Here are Andreia and Mark’s key takeaways from the session:

 • Make sure you have GA4 set up and running to collect data.
 • Look at your attribution models and understand what they can do for you.

On Wednesday 27 July, we officially opened our new office in Leeds city centre and launched our new £2m MarTech platform, BOSCO™.

The Modo25 and BOSCO™ team moved into our new office at One Embankment in Leeds during lockdown, so we were unable to share the occasion with our clients and partners.

To mark the occasion, we flew the international team over from Melbourne, Prague, and Canada. As a full team, together for the first time in two years, we were excited to unveil our new office and showcase BOSCO™ to our guests.

BOSCO™ enables retailers and agencies to use complex AI and machine learning to grow their profits. The SaaS platform connects all a business’s internal marketing and sales data with extensive algorithmic modelling to predict which channels are the best to invest in for future success.

Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council shared insight on the emerging and exciting technology start-up sector in Leeds. Tom recognised our growth during the pandemic and how the launch of BOSCO™ aims to help retailers, as well as support and funding from the LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership).

Stuart Paver, one of our clients and investors shared his passion for charity and the importance of purpose in business. We were also joined by Andrea Jenkyns MP, the Under-Secretary of State, Department for Education of the UK, who spoke about getting young people into work.

During the launch event, we hosted interactive sessions on using BOSCO™ for agencies and retailers with Dr James McKeone, the Principal Data Scientist who made a special appearance from Melbourne and Emily Hakner, the Associate Director of Product. In these sessions, we shared how BOSCO™ works and showcased the platform in real-time, with retail case study examples.

If you missed our launch party and would like to book a meeting with our team to discuss agency services or how BOSCO™’s AI capabilities can help your business, send us an email to team@modo25.com
